Averatec 1150-EW1 Review
Tuesday September 5, 2006
Averatec made a name for themselves by selling low cost highly portable notebook computer system. While they have begun offering larger notebook computer systems, they continue their tradition of ultraportables with the release of the Averatec 1150-EW1. Find out if this affordable portable has what it takes to compete in my latest review.

Averatec Power connectors get loose and broken very easily. They need to change their design to have more rugged power connectors on the laptop.
My 12″ Averatec is a nightmare to use - because I physically have to hold the power connector to get it to work, and type with one hand. Their customer support is non-existant, leaving me hanging with this bad connector. I had to replace the first one I bought because of shading on the screen left half the screen unreadable. Then the power supply problem is even worse!
If they would just boost the graphics a little and fix the cheap power connectors, Averatec would out-pace HP and Apple and Gateway in about 1 month. Price for performance ratio is top notch.

You cannot disable the touchpad in the BIOS (or any other way that I can find).
I find this a real problem when typing. The slightest touch of the pad sends the cursor off somewhere and screws it all up.
Only other complaint is the location/design of the button that opens the cd/dvd drive.I am always pushing it by accident when picking up or moving the laptop. Other than that I love this thing. I love the small size, and it does what I need from a laptop.
my 1100 is just perfect for my needs . as a pastor ,the 1100 is my real resource partner in any service at our church.
thank you for a great product.
I got an Averatec laptop - the power connector broke very easily when plugging in the laptop - the first month. Now I have to manually hold the wire in for it to recharge - or run it until the battery is dead.
Weak Power connectors are a sore spot for Averatec, I think they know that by now.
If they replace the cheap connector with something more solid - it is a good laptop.
Otherwise, if they keep the cheap power connector, it is a paperweight.
Averatec - please reengineer your MoBo to have a Strong - Travel worthy power connector, not something so fragile! It will save you repair costs and warranty costs! You will make more profit in the long run by using stronger rugged power connectors in your laptops.
If Averatec replaces the cheap power connector on the laptop, and upgrades the LCD display, then they are better than Dell, Gateway, and Sony !
My 1150-EW1 is the best laptop I ever had. I waited more than a year to post this to be really sure. I use it every day.
Sales are the problem. The site does not sell them anymore and that is a BIG plus for me.
