Gateway GT5220 Review

Thursday October 26, 2006
Gateway GT5220 ©Gateway Inc.

Gateway's foray into the retail marketplace didn't go well with its own retail stores. They have decided to reenter the retail market but this time through pre-configured systems sold through retail outlets such as CompUSA and Best Buy. Much of the focus for the systems sold in the retailers is on low cost PC computers. Find out in my review of the Gateway GT5220 retail budget desktop PC if this new strategy is a repeat of their old efforts or might undercut their own direct sales.

This computer is a monster the review forgot to mention the it can support up to 4 GB of pc4200 ddr2. I bought a BFG OC 6600 with 512MB of ddr2 to go with it i can run BF2/BF2142 at full graphic with no hiccups at all. While the board doesnt have another PCIe slot to run SLi (who needs it now any way unless your a graphics designer).

I use this computer in my office and it is really great. I can have 5 or 6 internet windows open, be working on a word doc, stop to looki at a spread sheet with the anti virus running a scan in the background and never miss a beat. This is a very nice machine for office tasks. I have played a few older games on it a few times too and it does fine but I would add a video card for 3d gaming. Overall though Im extremely impressed for the price and see me keeping this machine for several years.

I love this computer. It’s really quiet and really fast. The price can’t be beat. If you want something that’s amazing for the price…buy this bad boy. You will be very happy that you did.

I have had this computer since 2006 and have absolutely loved it, since then I’ve upped to 3 gigs of ddr2 800 RAM and an nVidia 8500 gt with no problems what so ever + it runs crysis at high settings :) . the only thing i can complain about is the small power supply but o well nothing is perfect.. And what’s with the backwards/reverse motherboard??? thats got me praying it doesn’t go out cuz I’ll never find a replacement if it does :p

This computer sucks! It has design faults that will result in your mother board failing sooner or later.
DON’t PURCHASE!!!

this desktop was great until it broke and parts are hard to find and if you find theyre $$$$$ and no motherboard is compatible to this system only the direct replacement. DO NOT BUY OK

When it works, it works great. When it doesn’t work, nobody but rocket scientists can diagnose whats wrong with it. The rotten PC only starts 1/1000 times pushing the button. Its stuck in “safe mode” and apparently this means its safe because it doesn’t do any work like boot up.

1 guy says it “could be” the motherboard. Another says its the switch (its not). Another says its the power supply. Another says its the hard drive. Don’t buy this POS. I am thinking about forking over the dough for a Hackintosh, because I’m so sick of Windblows and Microsuck.
