Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Released

Thursday November 2, 2006

Intel becomes the first company to release a processor to pack four cores onto a single chip for the desktop with the new Intel Core 2 Quad processor line. It won't be long though before AMD releases its 4x4 design that will pack in two dual core processors in response. So is it worth looking at buying one of these new quad core chips?

Basically, the only people who will really benefit from the new Quad Core technology will be those using applications that like to have more than two processor cores. This will primarily be those looking at applications such as video encoding and 3D rendering. Those using applications that are single-threaded, dual-threaded or bound by other components such as a graphics card would be better off by a less expensive dual core processor that gets the job done just as effectively.

If you still are interested in learning more about the new Core 2 Quad processors and see lots of benchmarks, click on the "Read more..." for the various reviews posted so far.
