One of the hottest selling laptops is the newly released ASUS Eee PC. (If you aren't sure how to pronounce the name, it is said like "easy".) Originally slated to be only $200, the system quickly ended up costing much more than that at launch but still quite inexpensive compared to most budget notebook PCs even. Even with the higher price tag, people were buying them up. So much in fact that ASUS has produced over 350,000 by the end of 2007.

The small two pound notebook is designed to be an extremely portable and easy to use system. It removed a number of different PC technologies and replaced others to reduce the size and increase its durability. But does it live up to all the hype surrounding its release? Find out more in my review of this hot new low cost ultraportable laptop PC.

External USB peripherals are very standardized and should function with the computer regardless of the operating system. The issue really has to do with the software to access items such as a DVD player or recorder. To my knowledge, no devices include any Linux compatible software for such tasks.

I have one of these and love it! Anything beyond the basics I save on a flash drive. The speakers sound great, there are 3 USB ports, and it is so fast. I was going to load XP, but after using it, I’m keeping the Linux OS. It comes with many functional programs, including anti-virus. Very easy to negotiate and use.

The Eee 701 should have come with an instruction manual about how to install Windows XP onto the system. It is not a very simple task as it requires a bunch of specialized steps in order to get it running properly. If your Eee 701 did not come with the instructions, try ASUS’s support site or one of the many Eee User forums on the web.
