By , About.com Guide   May 14, 2009

Follow me on:

It has been some time since there has been a laptop battery recall but the long stretch of fully functional batteries has come to an end with the recent announcement by HP and the Consumer Safety Products Commission of a new battery recall of around 70,000 units affecting various laptop models sold between August 2007 and March 2008. If you happened to purchase an HP laptop during this time frame, check with HP's recall page to validate that you battery is affected and receive a replacement at no cost.

I’ve read this earlier and it scared me to death. The big Lenovo IBM recalls were not fun either. You can see on YouTube at anytime how all of the laptops blow up because of this batteries. I have continued to purchase 3rd parties for my HPs and have yet to have any problems. A lot of companies like this have full waranties anyway instead of the limited ones that come with the stock batteries when you buy the laptop. And you are saving almost half of what you pay HP-Compaq for it.
