Understanding Desktop CD, DVD and Blu-ray Drives

Most people probably don't think much about optical drives when they purchase a new desktop system. This is likely because the industry has standardized much of their systems to include DVD burners even on the least expensive systems. Of course, the drives on these systems can vary heavily in performance. Then there is the issue of the new high definition formats and how that will play out.
