HP's Memory Packing Budget Desktop

Most of the budget desktop systems share many similar specifications. For example, they typically have either 3 or 4GB of memory and a 500GB hard drive. HP has decided to trump the competition by packing their latest budget desktop with more of both. Does this provide HP with an edge in performance or did they sacrifice other features?
