It has been over a year since I covered the desktop market segment priced between $700 and $1000. Why? Well, frankly there hasn't been much in the way of technology updates in the last year. Sure both AMD and Intel have released new processors but they have been small upgrades to previous models that only offer limited performance gains. The same can be said for the AMD and NVIDIA graphics cards. In fact, storage size and memory were the most significant changes through much of the last year. But now that time has past and pricing and features have made a number of small changes, it was time for me to update my picks for the Best Mainstream Desktops based on price, features and uses.
