12/10/03 - Small form factor PCs have become very popular recently, especially with PC gamers attending LAN parties. Capitalizing on this trend, Falcon Northwest has released the FragBox Pro. This is a system based on the FIC IC-VL167 SFF barebones kit. It utilizes the Intel i865G chipset. Falcon has spiced it up with a few case lights and badges. With its high price, many users may opt to build their own custom SFF PC for less.
Powering the FragBox Pro is an Intel Pentium 4 2.8 Ghz processor with 800 MHz frontside bus. This is not the fastest CPU available on the market. More disappointing is it can not be ordered with a different CPU. Those wanting to spend less do have the option of the regular FragBox with the 2.66GHz CPU with 533MHz bus. The FragBox Pro ships with 1GB of PC3200 memory.
Storage for the FragBox Pro is handled by a decent 120GB hard drive with an 8MB cache for good performance. Its not earth shattering, but works for most enthusiasts. Optical storage is handled by multiformat (+/-RW) DVD burner to allow it to handle all forms of optical discs.
Graphics is handled by a BFG Asylum GeForceFX 5950 Ultra graphics card with 256MB of memory. This should be plenty of enough power to play even the most current games at high resolutions with anti-aliasing enabled. Falcon uses a modified BFG card that only uses a single slot instead of the two a normal GeForceFX card would. Even with this free slot, they use the integrated audio instead of a PCI audio card.
