Guide Review - Gateway 310SE
10/14/03 - Gateway's 310SE budget desktop is the least expensive desktop computer available on the market currently, but this price also means a number of sacrifices in terms of features. The biggest drawback is the 128MB of memory. This is the minimum amount of memory required to run Windows XP. Applications running on top of this will encounter slowdowns due to the lack of additional memory. It also features a 48x CD-ROM drive which will let it read software and music, but it does not allow users to burn data or music CDs like other budget systems. Finally, it lacks an AGP slot preventing future video upgrades. While the price is low, the cost of upgrading these components would make it more expensive than other budget systems available.
