Guide Review - Microtel SYSD1001
10/16/03 - Microtel is best known for the $300 LINUX based desktop computer that was sold through Wal-Mart stores. Their SYSD1001 budget desktop system has a lot more to offer. For starter, it ships with a very powerful AMD Athlon XP 2000+ CPU. It may be an older AMD processor, but it still performs better than the Celeron line. The system does only ship with 128MB of memory which will hold back much of this performance. It also ships with a 52x CD-ROM so users will not be able to burn data or music CDs. Users who want to eventually upgrade to a true 3D graphics accelerator will be glad to know it has an AGP 4x expansion slot. While others ship Microsoft office suites, Microtel provides Open Office which is a good alternative.
