2/9/04 - Compaq's Presario 8000Z is a new system that is only offered as a customizable PC through the HP Shopping web site. It is a fairly expensive system, but even its base configuration has a lot to offer.
The Presario 8000Z is based around the new AMD Athlon64 3200+ 64-bit processor. This allows the system to have excellent performance and have future support for 64-bit operating systems and software. The system comes with 512MB of PC3200 memory to give it good computing performance.
Storage on the system is fairly impressive. It ships now with a standard 8x DVD+/-RW multiformat burner and a 16x DVD-ROM drive. Also included is a 120MB 7200rpm hard drive. This makes the 8000Z very strong in the storage arena and a good choice for digital video editing.
Graphics on the system are also quite impressive. The standard graphics card included is an ATI Radeon 9600 with 256MB of memory. This DirectX 9 compatible graphcis card should provide good performance in all 3D graphics including gaming. Audio is a bit more of a disappointment though. It ships with an integrated AC'97 audio controller than allows for 6 speaker surround sound, but fails to ship with any speakers standard.
Overall, the Compaq Presario 8000Z is a fairly impressive system. It is kind of disappointing that the system is limited to web site purchases only as it has a lot to offer a wide range of computer users.
