Guide Review - eMachines T3265

2/10/04 - eMachines has been well known for their low costs systems, an image they are trying to break with their latest notebook released. The T3265 is a mainstream desktop that tries to compete while still keeping prices down.

Many of the current eMachines sytems now come with the AMD processors. The T3265 comes with the Athlon XP 3200+ processor, the last and most powerful of AMD's 32-bit CPUs. It provides excellent performance at lower prices than Intel CPUs. Unfortunately, the system uses slower PC2700 memory instead of PC3200 that restricts it from its full potential.

Storage on the system is quite impressive. The system ships with a large 160GB hard drive. It also features a multiformat 4x DVD burner and 48x CD-ROM drive. Rounding out the storage is an 8-in-1 media card reader for digital peripheral storage cards.

Multimedia and graphics are very limited on the T3625. To reduce costs, the system uses an integrated GeForce 4 MX graphics core that uses 64MB of system memory. 3D graphics are very limited with this. Thankfully, there is an 8x AGP slot for expansion. Audio has the very impressive NVIDIA MCP-T 6-channel audio solution, but the system ships with only a single set of amplified speakers that do little to represent the audio capabilities.

For the price, the eMachines T3265 makes a very good starting system with good expansion potential. With the savings, users can easily upgrade the video and speakers and still end up with a less expensive machine.
