4/26/04 - Compaq's Presario 2951 is very much an average system in a field of notebooks available for under $1000. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it doesn't set the 2951 apart from its competitors.
The Presario 2951 is powered by the Intel Celeron 2.6 GHz processor that provides more than enough power for the average user. It is also matched up with 256MB of PC2100 memory. This will do well for most office and Internet applications but will get bogged down in more intensive applications such as digital imaging.
Storage is provided through a 30GB hard drive and a 24x CD-RW Combo optical drive. This allows users to be able to record CD media as well as play back DVD movies or data discs.
A large 15" XGA LCD screen provides a nice viewing experiencing. It is powered by an ATI Radeon Mobility graphics processor that shares 64MB of the system memory. Don't expect to be doing major 3D applications such as gaming with the solution, but it does provide excellent multimedia with applications such as movies.
One really nice feature of the Presario 2591 has to do with the touch pad. Many users opt to use external USB mice instead of the internal pointing devices. The problem is that many will accidently be activated by a user due to the close location to the keyboard. Compaq has included an on/off switch for the touchpad that helps to prevent these accidental clicks.
