Guide Review - eMachines M6807
1/20/04 - EMachines has been setting a trend lately in computer systems. They were one of the first major manufacturers to offer the Athlon64 64-bit processor in a desktop computer with the T6000. Now with the M6807, they are the first major manufacturer to offer the 64-bit processor for the portable market.
Powering the M6807 is the new Athlon64 3000+ Mobile processor. This is a blazing fast processor that is easily the equivalent of the high-end Pentium 4 processors in desktop replacements. It also has the added bonus of allowing future 64-bit software support. Matched with the processor is 512MB of PC2700 memory.
Storage on the system is equally impressive. This is one of the least expensive desktop replacements to feature a multiformat DVD burner. This combined with the fast processor make this a good desktop video portable. The M6807 also features a large capacity 60GB hard drive and a 6-in-1 media card reader.
Another surprising aspect of the system is its graphics. While the system only uses a 15.4" wide screen compared to some other than use a 17" LCD panel, the screen is still large enough for most users. Powering the M6807 is the ATI Radeon 9600 Mobility with 64MB of memory. This should be powerful enough for most 3D applications
Overall, this is a fairly impressive package. The M6807 offers a powerful processor, excellent graphics and surprising storage. The only thing one may have to consider on this is its battery life and limited software bundle.
