7/16/03 - The HP Pavilion ze5470us seems like a fairly decent desktop replacement system upon first inspection. It has an Intel Pentium 4 2.66 GHz desktop processor with 512 MB of RAM to allow it to compete with desktop systems. It also comes with a large 80 GB hard drive and a DVD+RW optical drive. The problem is that its video systems can't even compare to desktop level displays or even with other desktop replacements, especially for its price. The 15" LCD display is large enough, but its low 1024x768 resolution is below most of its competitors. The older ATI Radeon Mobility graphics processor will also be hard pressed to run many of today's 3D applications. There are better systems available for an equivalent or even lower price.
