Guide Review - MPC TransPort X1000
7/17/03 - MPC's TransPort X1000 desktop replacement system is a good all around system. It is designed around an Intel Pentium 4M 2.2 GHz processor that balances power and battery life. The memory configurations are a bit on the low side. The hard drive and optical drive are both of average specs for a desktop replacement at 40GB and 24x CD-RW Combo respectively. The 15" SXGA+ has a nice large display area and is powered with a good ATI Radeon Mobility 9000 graphics processor. MPC does limit the graphics memory to either 32 or 64MB which is lower than most of its competitors. Expansion is handled through 2 USB 2.0 and 1 IEE1394 ports. All of this adds up to a competent system, but there are better values available.
