Toshiba Portege R100

About.com Rating 3

The Bottom Line
While Toshiba may have the lightest laptop available with the Portege R100, its short battery life and high cost make it a hard sell.

Guide Review - Toshiba Portege R100
9/28/03 - The Toshiba Portege R100 is the lightest and thinnest laptop available at only .7" thick and 2.4 pounds. Of course this is pretty much the only bragging rights to it. In order to keep the weight and size down, Toshiba had to limit the size of the battery giving the R100 a very limited battery life even with its Pentium M processor. They also had to keep the optical drive as an external component that has to be connected through the PC Card slot. On the plus side though, they were able to keep a full sized keyboard on the unit. The big problem with the R100 is its very high price. Comparable systems provide more features at a lower cost. The price does include a 3-year limited warranty though.
