Guide Review - Sony VAIO PCG-GRT170
7/18/03 - Sony's GRT series of VAIO laptops is one of the best all around desktop replacements available. Powered by a Pentium 4 2.8 GHz desktop processor, this is a great multimedia system. The graphics are driven by an nVidia GeForce4 FX 5600 Go and displayed on a large 16.1" SXGA+ display. Add to this mix a dual format DVD+/-RW drive and this system is great for editing and burning video. Connectivity is great with the integrated 802.11b wireless network. There are a few downsides to this system though. First off there is no standard floppy drive. If you require one, it is necessary to purchase an external USB unit. The GRT170 is a bit larger and heavier than competing desktop replacements. It also goes through the battery quickly.
