1/23/04 - Voodoo is a manufacturer of high-end computer systems often targeting the gamer segment. The Envy M:855 is squarely aimed at this specific market segment with its stylish desktop replacement offering.
Voodoo is one of a few manufacturers that has committed to releasing AMD Athlon 64 processors in the notebook market. The M:855 uses the Athlon 64 3000+ with options for higher speed versions. These are definitely some of the fastest CPUs available for the portable market. It is matched up with 512MB of PC3200 memory to keep its performance levels high.
Storage on the system is very impressive. It features a 2x DVD-RW burner for fast performance at recording DVD media. The standard hard drive is a 40GB 5,400rpm model with option for a high speed 7,200rpm model. An integrated media card reader is also included.
Of course most gamers care about the graphics and this is where the M:855 really shines. The system uses a 15" SXGA+ LCD with a resolution of 1400x1050 and is matched up with the very powerful Radeon 9600 Pro Mobility graphics processor with 128MB of memory. This gives the M:855 very capable DirectX 9 graphics accelleration for games.
Of course, there is a downside to all this performance. The Envy M:855 is easily one of the most expensive systems on the market. While its footprint looks fairly small, it also is quite heavy. Of course, Voodoo also ensures a lot of style in their case to make sure the buyer is getting what they paid for.
