Guide Review - WinBook X4
5/9/03 - WinBook's X4 line of portable computers shows a very dated architecture design and has very limited appeal. While the system offers a high performance Pentium 4 M processor which tries to mix performance and battery life, the Pentium M is a better choice. The biggest problem with the system is in its SiS graphics core. Rather than having dedicated graphics memory, it uses a shared memory architecture which removes system RAM from application use. This really limits its performance in lower memory configurations. The system also comes in at a fairly hefty weight for its size which will make it a bit heavier to carry compared to other thin and light systems.
