The Bottom Line

Jan 8 2012 - ASUS tried to be a bit different with the ET2220IUTI-B019K but it doesn't quite pull off making a really unique system. Its compact size and wall mounting capabilities will be attractive to those that have limited space for a PC. The quad core processor also gives it a slight edge in performance for a system priced just under $1000. The downside is that the design is fairly plain and it sacrifices some graphics performance which isn't really necessary. Buyer's can either spend a bit more for a bit more rounded all-in-one or spend less for either a smaller design with slightly less performance.

Review - ASUS ET2220IUTI-B019K

Jan 8 2012 - The ASUS ET2220 is a fairly plain overall all-in-one design that really is just the display panel with a kick stand mount that makes it look like it is just the fairly wide display panel. This is a departure from the ET2410 series that featured a standard monitor stand design. There is a fairly wide black bezel that surrounds the display with its glossy coating and a small silver strip below the display that houses the speakers. Most companies are producing 24-inch size all-in-one models so this does have a bit of an advantage for those with more limited overall desk space. In fact, it even features a VESA mount design on the back for use with standard wall-mounting hardware.

Powering the ASUS ET2220IUTI-B019K is a Intel Core i5-3330 quad core desktop processor. This is one of the lowest grade of quad core processors but it does a good job of balancing performance for general applications and having some extra power for more demanding applications or multitasking. The processor is matched up with 8GB of DDR3 memory that provides it with a smooth overall experience with Windows 8.

Storage for the ASUS ET2220 is pretty typical of your average all-in-one desktop system. It uses a one terabyte hard drive that provides it with a fair amount of storage for applications data and media files. It uses a desktop class drive that spins at the standard 7200rpm spin rate that provides it with a bit better performance than those that opt for the green class 5400rpm drives. If you do require additional storage, it comes with a total of four USB 3.0 ports for use with high speed external storage. Two are on the back panel while the other two are on the left hand side of the display. A dual layer DVD burner is included for playback and recording of CD or DVD media.

The big feature on the ASUS ASUS ET2220IUTI-B019K is the 21.5-inch touchscreen display. It offers full 10-point multitouch support for the Windows 8 gestures. The screen itself offers a 1920x1080 native resolution for full 1080p high definition video support which is useful as it also features an HDMI input that allows it to be used for external devices such as a game console, cable or satellite turner or Blu-ray player. The only real downside is the kickstand support on the back of the display panel. It does allow a bit better than average tilt angle of up to 40 degree but it would be nice to see a bit more support of the main display panel. In terms of the graphics, it uses the Intel HD Graphics 2500 integrated graphics processor built into the Core i5 processor. This gives it very limited 3D graphics support such that it is not suitable for 3D gaming. It does support accelerated media encoding when using Quick Sync compatible applications but it still falls short of what the HD Graphics 4000 based processors can achieve.

Pricing for the ASUS ET2220 is right around $1000. This is a bit on the higher side for a compact all-in-one system but it does offer a quad core processor. Its primary competition comes from the Apple iMac 21.5-inch, Dell's Inspiron One 23 Touch and HP Envy 20. Apple's iMac is more expensive but offers one of the best screens for the size as well as dedicated graphics but has a slower hard drive and is not a touchscreen. Dell's offers much of the same overall specifications but is more expensive and uses a 23.6-inch display. Finally, HP's Envy 20 is a bit smaller and more affordable but uses a slower processor, less memory and lower resolution display.
