The Bottom Line

Jan 25 2012 - ASUS has made a some very smart moves in its overall choice for features within the ET2410IUTS-B018C. It sacrificed some internal multimedia capabilities such as Blu-ray and an HDTV tuner to keep the prices down. Even without these, they smartly added a large variety of external peripheral ports to allow for a wide range of capabilities. In addition to this, it offers above average performance thanks to its quad core desktop processor not typically found in the under $1000 price segment. The biggest drawback though is the integrated graphics which can't be upgraded in any way thus prevent much for 3D graphics.

Pros

  • Good Performance Level For Its Price
  • USB 3.0 and eSATA Ports
  • Relatively Thin Display

Cons

  • Integrated Graphics

Review - ASUS ET2410IUTS-B018C

Jan 25 2012 - ASUS has revised its all-in-one design with the ET2410IUTS. Unlike the picture frame stand design of the ET2400, this one uses a more traditional pedestal monitor stand. The only real downside is that it still offers a very limited tilt range compared to some new offerings with touchscreens. ASUS did keep the display and its internals very thin for an all-in-one but it does mean that it has to use an external power brick.

Performance from the ASUS ET2400IUTS-B018C is a good balance considering its under $1000 price tag. It features an Intel Core i5-2310 quad core processor. This is a step above much of the other all-in-ones in this price range that tend to feature dual core Intel Core i3 desktop or mobile Core i5 processor. This combined with 6GB of DDR3 memory provides it with a smooth overall experience especially for those that that run multiple programs or want to do a bit more demanding tasks such as desktop video.

The basic storage features of the ASUS ET2410IUTS-B018C are pretty typical of your average all-in-one system. It features a decently sized 1TB hard drive that provides a fair amount of space for applications, data and media files. It also comes equipped with a dual-layer DVD burner for playback or recording of CD or DVD media. It would be nice to see Blu-ray, but it would add a lot to the cost. ASUS makes up for this though by offering an excellent set of peripheral ports. For those that need more high speed external storage, it comes equipped with both USB 3.0 and an eSATA port. The only downside is that these ports are on the side of the display behind a panel where they would have been better on the back to keep cable clutter down. In addition to these, there also is both an HDMI input and output. This allows hooking up an external monitor for dual displays as well as using a consumer electronics Blu-ray player, game console or HDTV tuner with the system.

While the ASUS ET2410IUTS comes equipped with a 23.6-inch multitouch capable display, ASUS does not include any real useful software to take advantage of this feature other than the standard Windows 7 touch capabilities. This is disappointing when you look at what HP has achieved with its TouchSmart series. The display itself offers a nice 1920x1080 resolution for 1080p high definition video and uses a typical glossy coating of most consumer computer systems these days. The real disappointment comes from the graphics system that relies on the integrated Intel HD Graphics 2000 built onto the Core i5 chip but it isn't surprising for all-in-ones priced under $1000. As long as you aren't planning on doing much 3D graphics for even light casual PC gaming, you will probably be alright. What it doesn't offer is much non-3D application acceleration beyond the few QuickSync enabled applications for desktop video work.
