Guide Review - ASUS EeeTop PC ET2203T 21.6-inch All-In-One Desktop PC
Jan 5 2010 - The ASUS EeeTop PC ET2203T is kind of a surprise from the company. The Eee product line was previously reserved for low cost Intel Atom based netbooks and nettops. This system is very different from them other than the relative cost for the features supplied in this $1200 all-in-one system.
First off, the ET2203T is a touchscreen system. This combined with the Windows 7 support for a touchscreen interfaces opens up a wide range of application options that typical desktops do not have. Unfortunately, ASUS decided to use just a single touch interface for the system to keep prices down. This gives it much more limited ability that makes it better suited for tasks such as browsing the web than say photo editing.
The big feature on the ET2203T though is the HD video support. The 21.6-inch display has a very high 1920x1080 resolution that allows it to fully support 1080p HD video. Combine this with a built-in Blu-ray combo drive in the system and watching the latest Blu-ray movies at full 1080p resolution is quite enjoyable. The screen has wide viewing angles and a very nice brightness level. It does use a glossy coating that can make it difficult to view in certain lighting conditions.
While the ET2203T is certainly capable of HD video, don't expect much in terms of 3D video capability. The ATI Radeon HD 4570 graphics card is decent for handling HD video streams but it is very limited when it comes to PC games due to the 256MB of memory and less than stellar speed. Expect old games to play alright but even then they probably won't be at the screens full resolution. Of course, there is an HDMI input that can allow external consoles with HDMI compatible outputs to be connect if you really want to do gaming.
General performance is probably the area that the ET2203T has the biggest struggle with. The Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 dual core mobile processor is a fairly mediocre choice in terms of performance. It is on the lower scale of laptop class processors that falls well behind all-in-ones that use desktop processors. The system also uses more affordable DDR2 memory compared to the faster but slightly more expensive DDR3.
With a price tag of roughly $1200, the ASUS EeeTop PC ET2203T is certainly an excellent choice for someone looking at a general purpose all-in-one system that can also double as a HD movie player or video game console display.
