The Bottom Line

9/25/08 - Sony's all-in-one desktop VGC-LT35E is very much designed as a high definition media station. This mainly comes from the inclusion of a Blu-ray writer and digital TV tuner built into the unit. The 22-inch screen is spacious and large, but falls just short of the full 1080 HD resolution. Sony also has put in an ExpressCard/34 slot that allows it to have some expansion capability. The big drawback to it is its fairly high price tag.

Guide Review - Sony VAIO VGC-LT35E All-In-One Desktop PC

9/25/08 -The VAIO LT35E is really just an upgrade of the existing Sony all-in-one desktop system. It retains the media oriented features of the previous generation with some upgrades to the various internal components. The most notable upgrade is to the Intel Core 2 Duo T8100 dual core mobile processor. This combined with a memory increase to 4GB gives it some solid overall performance for an all-in-one unit.

The big features on the LT series are the media items. Like the previous generation, the VAIO LT35E comes equipped with a Blu-ray burner that is also capable of burning DVD and CDs. Add to this the built-in digital TV tuner, and the system is designed as a high definition media center. The only problem with this is the 22-inch panel that Sony uses. It is limited to a 1680x1050 resolution that falls just short of fully support 1080 high definition signals.

Unlike many other all-in-one systems, Sony is clearly focused on storage capacity. This of course is a necessity for anything that might also be used as a digital video recorder with high definition content. In order to achieve their high 640GB of total storage space, they have made room within the unit for two hard drives, each with 320GB of space.

Another feature unique to the VAIO LT35E is the inclusion of an ExpressCard/34 slot. This allows users to use notebook expansion slots to add additional capabilities to the system without the need of using external USB peripherals.

As with most of the Sony computer system, price is the big hurdle for consumers. The VAIO LT35E is one the high end of the all-in-one desktop market. This is primarily because of all the high definition features. This makes it a great system for a bedroom that can double as a TV or PC.

Perfect computer for Clean Mediaholics, Member benred

Though expensive, it is being discontinued and online retailers are selling it for 800 dollars less than retail... then that makes the computer a really good deal. I'm a college student and even though a laptop would have been an ideal computer, I needed something with more capabilities. I have a tv, a tv recorder, a dvd burner, a media genius! I can burn shows into dvds, I can put shows and movies into my niece and nephews memory sticks for their psp, watch blu-ray, easily manage memory cards from my sony, panasonic dig cams and panasonic camcorder. I can use adobe photoshop, lightroom, flash... without delay even though they use up a lot of RAM. I don't worry about cords and the wireless keyboard and mouse doesn't consume much of the battery at all! I haven't even changed them since I got them in late october. It's now early january. I use the computer daily and I leave the keyboard and mouse on almost all the time. This computer is perfect for the mediaholic. The computer also doesn't consume much space and produces virtually no noise. Much quieter than my Toshiba laptop. The size of the screen is more than adequate; I am able to view 3 applications at once without having to switch windows. I watch tv while I am doing a microsoft word application. Overall, I am quite happy with this computer. It beats hp touchsmart anyday! Since I hate looking at smear marks on the screen, I would have been constantly cleaning the screen if I got the touchsmart.
