The About.com Reader's Choice Awards for 2010 are a chance for the About.com readers to let us know what they think is the best in a variety of categories. For the PC Hardware / Reviews site, you will be able to nominate and vote for your favorite companies for three different awards: Best Desktops, Best Laptops and Best PC Monitors.

Winners

Thanks to everyone who participated in the Reader's Choice 2010 by nominating and voting for their favorites. All the votes have been tallied and now it is time to announce the winners. Below are the categories, their winners and the percentage of the votes by each of the finalists.

Best Desktops - Dell

  • Acer - 17.9%
  • Apple - 15.7%
  • Dell - 29.8%
  • Gateway - 11.3%
  • HP - 25.1%

It was a tight race between Dell and HP up until the end but Dell managed to just pass up HP in the end. The company is one of the more prolific in making desktop systems with a wide range between budget and high performance systems. HP tends to be a much more mainstream company with more emphasis on general performance and value. They are two of the biggest sellers in the US so it is not surprising to see them on top.

Best Laptops - ASUS

  • Apple - 23.6%
  • ASUS - 28.8%
  • HP - 17.7%
  • Lenovo - 12.8%
  • Toshiba - 16.8%

I'm actually quite surprised to see ASUS coming out on top of this category. I think that their prolific netbook models probably helped them alot. They do provide a lot of innovations in terms of design as well. Apple came in a close second and this is most likely from their high quality products. Sure, they cost more but you tend to get a higher level of product for that extra cash.

Best PC Displays - Samsung

  • Apple - 19.3%
  • Dell - 20.2>
  • HannsG - 4.9%
  • LG - 9.4%
  • Samsung - 46.0%

Samsung won by a landslide and it actually is not surprising at all. They are the largest manufacturer of LCD panels in the world and include some of their latest panels in their products before others get a chance at them.
