Gateway DX110X

About.com Rating 4

By Mark Kyrnin, About.com

The Bottom Line
Even though the DX110X is a low end system from Gateway, it is actually a surprisingly well rounded budget desktop computer system.

Guide Review - Gateway DX110X

4/12/06 – Gateway's DX110X is powered by one of the more powerful Intel budget processors, the Celeron D 331. However, this doesn't match the same raw power that can be found in the low end Pentium 4 processors from other budget systems. Still, performance is quite strong thanks to the pairing with a full gigabyte of PC2-4200 DDR memory that should let it run smoothly through most applications.

Storage is about average for what can be found in the budget desktop segment. The 160GB hard drive provides plenty of space for most consumers program and data storage. A 16x DVD+/-RW dual layer burner is included to allow users to create music, movie and data CDs or DVDs. The system does lack a media card reader reader that is found in many computers today to interface with digital peripheral memory cards.

Like most budget system, the DX110X uses an integrated graphics processor. The ATI Radeon Xpress 200 is a step up from the Intel graphics, but it still lacks much 3D performance. Those looking to play PC gamers will be glad to know the system does feature a 16x PCI Express graphics cards slot. The system does come with a 17” Gateway VX765 CRT monitor to make it a completely functional system.

I should point out one bothersome item for those looking to order from Gateway online. In the system selection process, Gateway kindly selects all of their recommended upgrades unless the user opts out of them. These upgrades add 50% to the price of the system.
