4/27/05 - Shuttle is a newcomer to the budget desktop market. It has taken its success in the small form factor component market and translated that into full computer system. The XPC G 4300h is their first budget oriented desktop system.
Rather than the Intel platform, the G 4300h is based around the AMD Sempron budget processor. This is a low cost processor that does well in productivity software but does slow down a bit in processor intensive applications. It is matched up with 256MB of PC3200 DDR that is really the minimum needed to run Windows XP.
Storage is average for the budget market. It comes with an 80GB hard drive and a 52x CD-RW burner for creating music or data CDs. It does lack the ability to read or record DVDs, but these are available as options.
The graphics for the XPC G 4300h are very below average. The S3 Unichrome integrated graphics are suitable for 2D graphics only. The difference is that the XPC does come standard with an AGP 8x graphics slot allowing for graphics card upgrades. This is a great feature that most budget desktops lack.
The real strength of the XPC line comes from its small design. The small dimensions of the case allow it to be placed almost anyone on a desktop. This can also be a problem however. Its small size means that cooling the interior components can get quite loud, preventing it from being too close to the user.
