4/24/07 – It's surprising what small things in a budget desktop computer can be good and bad for it. Take for instance some of the features included and missing from the eMachines T5224 desktop PC. On the one hand, the system comes with stereo speakers. Many companies don't include any speakers with their low cost desktops which require an additional expense to the consumer. Enough of these small items can add up to a fairly significant amount to the end cost of the system.
But what about things that are lacking? Take for example the FireWire port. The most common use of this interface is to allow the direct import of digital video from a camcorder to a personal computer. Since the eMachines T5224 does not have this interface on the system, owners would have to purchase an extra expansion card to move home videos to the PC for editing. Once again a small thing, but it can be of significant importance to someone looking at a new PC.
Much of the features and specifications for the eMachines T5224 is what one would find on the average budget desktop PC. The Intel Pentium D 820 processor is a low cost dual core processor, but it is a bit older and slower than the more common Pentium D 900 series processors that are being used now. The 1GB of memory is useful for letting the system run smoothly with he new Vista operating system. Its 250GB of hard drive space and 16x dual layer DVD burner are also commonplace for the low cost desktop.
Overall, this would seem to make the eMachines just a normal overall system. What sets the eMachines apart from the others though is its cost. The system is about 10 to 15% less expensive than many similarly equipped budget desktops.
