Guide Review - eMachines T6536

10/25/06 – The eMachines T6536 is a slight update to their previous top of the line budget system. They have updated the CPU to use an AMD Athlon 64 3800+ that gives it a slight boost in performance. While it isn't a dual core processor it does offer strong performance when running single applications. It comes with a full gigabyte of memory that should let it run most applications without problem. On the downside, it does use older PC3200 DDR memory over the new DDR2.

Storage is quite strong for the eMachines T6536. The system comes with a very larger 250GB hard drive that provides plenty of storage space for programs and application data. It also comes with a 16x DVD+/-RW dual layer burner that lets it read or record music, movie or data CDs and DVDs.

Graphics wise the eMachines T6536 is like most budget systems. It uses an NVIDIA GeForce 6100 integrated graphics controller that is a step up from the most common Intel GMA controller from Intel based systems, but its 3D performance is still not very strong. A PCI-Express graphics slot is available for upgrades.

One aspect of the computer is also kind of troublesome. It has a total of six USB 2.0 ports and no FireWire ports. This prevents the system from connecting to newer digital camcorders. In addition, the stereo speakers provided with it are powered by a USB port that limits the number of external peripherals compared to other budget desktop PCs.
