Guide Review - HP Compaq Presario M2010US

4/12/05 - Since HP's purchase of Compaq, HP has modified Compaq to be the more bargain priced computers while HP's Pavilion lines are targeted towards the higher price segments.

The Presario M2010US notebook is powered by the Intel Celeron M 350 (1.3GHz) processor that has become extremely popular for budget notebooks. It provides much of the same power benefits of the Pentium M processor but at a reduced price and computing ability. This is matched up with 256MB of PC2100 DDR memory that should be sufficient to run the base operating system plus a couple of applications.

Storage for the M2010US is provided by a 40GB 4,200rpm hard drive and a 24x CD-RW/DVD combo drive. This is very standard for the storage in this segment of notebook. What is missing from the M2010US is a media card reader. These have become very common in notebook computers and it is should really be standard now.

The M2010us has a very standard configuration for the graphics. It has a large 15" XGA LCD display that should be very easy to read. It also used the Intel Extreme 2 integrated graphics. This is adequate for 2D graphics but don't expect much in terms of 3D performance.

What sets the Presario M2010US apart from other budget notebook computer is the software package. Often manufacturers will remove software items to help cut costs. The M2010US comes with just about every basic software package that a user will need in a new notebook.
