4/10/07 – HP's Pavilion dv2310us notebook isn't going to be winning any speed crowns. The AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-52 dual core processor is competent and capable, it just fails to match the performance of the Intel Core Duo mobile processors. This may detract a few people from buying the notebook, but they will be missing out on the other great features this laptop offers.
Storage with the Pavilion dv2310us is second to none in the budget segment. A very large 160GB hard drive provides plenty of storage space and its 5400rpm spin rate gives it excellent performance as well. In addition to this, a 8x DVD burner is included that also is capable of burning labels directly to LightScribe compatible media. This is a feature rarely seen in budget notebooks.
Connectivity is also well represented in this smaller than average notebook. Most notebooks feature the 802.11b/g wireless standards. To add an extra layer of support, the Pavilion dv2310us also supports the 802.11a networking standard. If that wasn't enough, the notebook also contains a Bluetooth transmitter as well. This lets the notebook connect to Bluetooth peripherals including cell phones, keyboards, mice and even headphones.
And if that wasn't enough, HP also has packed a 1.3 megapixel webcam into the LCD panel bezel. This is another feature that one rarely sees in the budget segment and opens up a whole lot of possibilities for this mobile multimedia platform.
It so hard to find fault with HP's design choices for the Pavilion dv2310us. Sure, it isn't the fastest system available, but all the other features more than make up for the slightly slower AMD processor.
