4/18/06 – Unlike many budget notebooks, the HP Pavilion dv5110us is powered by the AMD Sempron 3000+ budget processor over the more common Intel processors. This processor is sufficient for most basic applications, but it isn't as optimized for battery life or performances as the Intel Pentium M. It is matched up with 512MB of PC2700 DDR memory.
Storage is a mixed bag for the Pavilion dv5110us. While the system comes with a fairly large 80GB hard drive, it spins at a slower 4200rpm speed that reduces performance. The system also does not include a DVD burner. Instead it ships with a 24x CD-RW/DVD combo drive that allows users to create data or music CDs or playback DVD movies.
The Pavilion dv5110us features a very good 15.4” wide screen LCD panel that is becoming very common for notebook computers. It is powered by the ATI Radeon Xpress 200M integrated graphics processor that shares 128MB of system memory. This provides much better 3D performance over the more common Intel integrated graphics, but it lacks sufficient power for any real 3D gaming applications.
One of the biggest problems users may have with the Pavilion dv5110us is its expansion ports. The system only comes with two USB 2.0 ports and a single Express Card/54 slot. There are few Express Card peripherals at this point and the lack of a FireWire port prevents downloading video from digital camcorders.
