Lenovo 3000 N100

About.com Rating 4

By Mark Kyrnin, About.com

The Bottom Line
Lenovo's 3000 N100 notebook will get a lot of comparison to the ThinkPad z60 notebooks, but the Lenovo branded budget notebook does fair very well as a low cost corporate computer system.

Guide Review - Lenovo 3000 N100

4/19/06 – Powering the Lenovo 3000 N100 is the new Intel Core Duo T2300 dual core processor. This is fairly surprising to see on a low cost notebook, but it provides the system with very strong performance. It is matched up with 512MB of PC2-4200 DDR2 memory that should let it run most productivity applications without much problem.

Hard drive performance is also quite strong for the 3000 N100 system. It comes with a large 80GB model that uses the faster 5400rpm spin rate. While the hard drive storage is quite good, they chose not to include a DVD burner with the system. Instead it uses a 24x CD-RW/DVD combo drive that allows users to record music or data CDs or playback DVD movies.

While many systems are using the 15.4” wide screen displays, the 3000 N100 uses the smaller 14.1” wide screen display. This helps reduce the size of the notebook to make it lighter and more portable than the average budget notebook. The graphics are powered by the Intel GMA 950 integrated processor that shares the system memory. 3D performance with this is an improvement over older integrated controllers but still lacks power for 3D gaming.

The system is going to be directly compared to the ThinkPad systems because it is marketed as a low cost corporate computer. It does not have the same sturdiness of the case or keyboard of the ThinkPad, but they are still good.
