Guide Review - Toshiba Satellite A105-S2021
4/20/06 – Powering the Toshiba Satellite A105-S2021 is the Intel Celeron M 390 processor. This is one of the highest performance models of the Celeron line, but it does have slightly lower performance than the Pentium M and Core processors that are found in the budget segment. The processor is matched up with 512MB of PC2-4200 DDR2 memory to let it run most productivity applications smoothly.
The most impressive aspect of the Satellite A105-S2021 is the storage. Toshiba has decide to use a very large 100GB hard drive running at the 5400rpm spin rate. This provides superb storage and performance from the notebook's hard drive. They have also included an 8x DVD+/-RW dual layer burner to let users record or playback music, movie or data CDs and DVDs. This gives the notebook some of the best storage capabilities found in a budget notebook.
Graphics are fairly standard for the budget notebook market. The Satellite A105-S2021 uses a 15.4” wide screen LCD panel that gives extra space for the desktop or watching DVDs. It is powered by the ATI Radeon Xpress 200 integrated graphics processor that uses up to 128MB of the system memory. This is a step above the Intel graphics found in many notebooks but it still lacks 3D performance for things such as gaming.
While the system does feature a total of four USB 2.0 ports, those looking to use it for digital video should be warned that it does not include a FireWire port for downloading video from digital camcorders.
