Jun 24 2009 - Most people can get by with a standard SATA cable that comes with their computer motherboard or drives. There are certain situations though that might require a user to purchase a specialized cable to use in their case. A good example is when there isn't enough clearance on either the drive or motherboard to accomadate a standard SATA cable.
SATA cables with right angled connectors are generally used in cases where their is limited space. They only stick out about half of the distance of the tradition connector because they turn perpendicular to the connector. This can be extremely useful if an expansion card or case fan might get in the way. Having a cable with a single connector is typical, but OKGear has made the GC10AKM22 with two right angled connectors if there is limited clearance on both.
The dual right angle connector makes this cable extremely useful for certain computer layouts. The problem is that many motherboards place SATA connectors directly next to one another. This can result in a case where use of the cable may allow a connector to be used but block another from being used. Because of this, make sure that there are other alternatives before using such a cable.
The biggest issue with the GC10AKM22 cable is its short length. At only 10-inches, it is really only useful for small cases where the drive is fairly close to the motherboard connector. OKGear does make a 24-inch long cable for larger cases, but it is generally too large for most instances.
