Even with the DVD burners being rated at 6x or 8x in their specifications, I was unable to locate any media that was compatible for recording faster than 4x speeds. Rewritable media is not very popular with consumers as the recordable media is much cheaper and faster. Since all the drives recorded at a 4x speed, it does give us a good impression of their relative speeds given media speed restrictions.

Three drives in particular scored very strong numbers of roughly fifteen minutes: Samsung SH-S162L, Plextor PX-760A and LGE GSA-4167B. These numbers are so close because the minor differences are statistically small. Once again we have a fairly disappointing performance from the BenQ DW1655 drive. It was the slowest drive in the group and it once again caused errors on the first disc that was attempted to be burned.

Playback of the discs was a different story though. Even though the BenQ drive had poor recording performance, it was the fastest by far when reading back the disc. The NEC ND-4570A also scored very well in the playback tests. Access times were best posted by the Plextor PX-760A, Samsung SH-S162L and BenQ drives. Lowest CPU usage came from the Samsung drive and the LGE GSA-4167B.
