While DVD-R supports a wider range of consumer DVD players, DVD+R has been growing in popularity because of its earlier achievements with speeds and its more prevalent blank media. All of the drives in the test are listed at 16x speeds, except the new Plextor PX-760A that claims 18x speeds with 16x compatible media.
Overall, write times were very much inline with what the DVD-R media tests showed. The Plextor PX-760A was able to achieve its 18x maximum speed and came away with the fastest recording times. Surprisingly, the LGE GSA-4167B wasn't that far behind. Even the LiteOn SHM-165H6S and Samsung SH-S162L had very close numbers. Once again, the BenQ drive was significantly slower than the other drives. In fact, it was a full two minutes slower than the Plextor.
In terms of playback performance, the BenQ DW1655 once again had the best performance scores even though it did poorly in writing. The LiteOn also scored well in reading the DVD+R media. The Samsung SH-S162L had the best access times with a sub 100ms random access, better than its rated specifications. Even though the Plextor PX-750A did fairly poorly in the tests, it did use the least CPU cycles.
