Guide Review - Hypersonic Aviator GX7

7/21/04 - Searching for the best desktop replacement notebook possible? Want to play lots of games on it? Hypersonic thinks they have the answer with their Aviator GX7 notebook.

The GX7 has an amazing amount of performance thanks to the use of top of the line desktop components. It starts out with the use of the Intel Pentium 4 3.4Ghz Extreme Edition desktop processor. The CPU has the highest current clock speed and an extra large cache to give it outstanding performance. This is matched up to a dual channel 1GB PC3200 DDR setup that lets it scream through any application.

Since gaming is the goal of this notebook, it comes equipped with the latest and greatest mobile graphics engine, the ATI Mobility 9700 Pro. It even features 256MB of dedicated video memory to allow it to play all the latest DirectX 9 and OpenGL games at high resolutions. The system even has a built-in TV tuner to let users watch their favorite programs.

Storage on the system is good with a 60GB 7200rpm hard drive. For those will to pay a little more, a RAID0 setup is also available. Optical storage is a bit disappointing with only a 24x CD-RW combo drive. It also features a 6-in-1 media card reader.

For such a great gaming bundle though, it does have its drawbacks. Most notably in the software bundle. It doesn't feature any productivity software and only uses XP Home. The price is also a big issue for many consumers. But for those who want some of the best around, the Aviator GX7 shouldn't disappoint.
