Guide Review - Toshiba Qosmio G15
(7/29/05) In many ways, the Toshiba Qosmio G15 is just a slightly larger version of the F15 model. They are both based on the Intel Pentium M 745 (1.8Ghz) mobile processor that gives it good performance while conserving battery usage. They both also come equipped with 512MB of PC2700 DDR memory. It would be nice to see Toshiba use the better suited PC3200 memory to match the processor.
Storage space is improved significantly in the Qosmio G15 thanks to the use of two hard drives. A 60GB and 40GB hard drive are used to give the system 100GB of storage space while still using faster 5400rpm rotational speeds. It also features a 8x DVD+/-RW burner to let is create and play back DVDs or CDs.
Another key area where the Qosmio G15 is an improvement over the F15 is the larger 17 LCD display. This provides a much larger screen for those watching DVDs or just using the desktop. Like the F15, it is powered by the NVIDIA GeForce 5700 Go that is a bit dated in terms of 3D functionality, but is still sufficient for most people's needs.
Of course, the Qosmio G15 still retains the superb ability to use the multimedia functions of the system without the need of loading the operating system. This truly sets it apart from many of the other Media Center based PCs that still need to full system up to operate.
