Guide Review - Toshiba Qosmio G25
1/27/06 Toshiba has improved a number of components in the new Qosmio G25 over the previous G15 model. The processor has been bumped up to an Intel Pentium M 760 (2Ghz) mobile processor for strong performance with good battery life. Another big improvement was increasing the memory to 1GB over the previous 512MB and using faster PC2-4200 DDR memory over the older PC2700 DDR.
Storage is very similar to the older G15 model with a modest bump in storage space. The G series still uses two hard drives, but instead of using a 60GB and 40GB model, it uses two 60GB drives for a a total of 120GB of space. The system does support RAID 0 or 1 for those looking to boost performance or reliability. It also features a 8x DVD+/-RW burner to let is create and play DVDs or CDs.
Like the previous G15 model, the Qosmio G25 uses a large 17 wide screen LCD. It uses dual lamps behind it to produce extremely sharp and bright pictures. The graphics processor has been updated to a newer NVIDIA GeForce Go 6600 graphics processor. This has improved 3D performance over the pervious model, but it is below many other comparably priced desktop replacements.
The Qosmio is most notably designed for multimedia and these features continue to be excellent. The integrated TV tuner, DVD player and audio can all be accessed without the need of using the Windows XP Media Center Edition. Of course, with the OS features such as the digital video record and the multimedia remote are enhanced.
