7/27/06 - One of the big enhancements for the Qosmio G35 was the upgrade of the processor to the Intel Core Duo T2400. This dual core processor gives the system excellent multitasking capabilities, something that is important for multimedia applications that are used while also doing general computing. A full gigabyte of PC2-4200 DDR2 memory is included to let the system run smoothly through most applications.
Storage is quite good for the Qosmio G35. It features a total of 160GB of total storage space, but this comes from the use of two 80GB hard drives. This gives the system a little less performance than using a single drive and also takes up addition space within the notebook that increases the size and weight. An 8x DVD+/-RW dual layer burner is included for reading and recording CDs and DVDs.
The key feature for any multimedia notebook is the graphics display. The Qosmio G35 features a very bright 17” wide screen LCD panel. While it does use the lower 1440x900 resolution, the screen is very sharp making it easy to read text unlike many high resolution displays. The graphics are powered by a dedicated GeForce Go 7300 graphics processor. While not as fast as other processors, it can handle 3D applications like gaming without filtering enabled.
The one thing that Toshiba really needs to tackle with the Qosmio line is reducing the weight. The G35 is still several pounds heavier than competing desktop replacement systems.
