Review - Acer Aspire TimelineX AS4820TG-5464G32Mnks Gaming Laptop PC

If you're considering getting a laptop for gaming but worry about space constraints and portability, the Acer Aspire TimelineX AS4820TG-5464G32Mnks is a budget-friendly choice. The 14-inch WXGA screen has a max resolution of 1366x768, which is adequate, considering the display is small. Although many gamers prefer a larger notebook for gaming, the Acer Aspire TimelineX is great if you tote it around campus or use it for casual gaming.

The Acer Aspire TimelineX AS4820TG-5464G32Mnks also features an Intel Core i5-460M that runs at 2.53GHz. Since this is a Core i5 CPU, it is equipped with TurboBoost technology up to 2.8GHz and 3MB of cache. In terms of memory, the Acer Aspire TimelineX AS4820TG-5464G32Mnks comes with 4GB of DDR3 memory, which is adequate for a machine under $800. The system does support up to 8GB of RAM, though, for future upgrades.

While graphics are not stellar on this budget-friendly notebook, the Acer Aspire TimelineX does come with an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 graphics card. It's not the fastest GPU on the market, but it does support DirectX 11 and offers smooth gameplay in mainstream games. You may not be able to max out the settings in all games, but the Acer scores points for having a dedicated graphics card versus integrated graphics like many of its competitors in this price range.

Unfortunately, the Acer Aspire TimelineX AS4820TG-5464G32Mnks has a 320GB 5400RPM hard drive, which lacks both speed and space. However, if you're a casual gamer or have other methods of storage, it will suffice. And while the 6-cell battery isn't great for long gaming sessions, it can handle checking the Auction House in World of Warcraft with ease. The notebook is also lightweight (4.85 pounds), making it a breeze to carry around.

In conclusion, the Acer Aspire TimelineX AS4820TG-5464G32Mnks is a great little notebook for light gaming. It's perfect for students who need the portability of a laptop without the price of a desktop replacement. While the graphics aren't stellar, those on a budget will appreciate the dedicated video card over integrated graphics.
