8/23/05 – Gateway's 7310X mainstream desktop PC is powered by the Intel Pentium 4 531 processor. This is slightly slower than what is found in other mainstream desktop PC computers, but for most users they will not be able to tell the difference. This is matched up with 512MB of PC 3200 DDR memory that is standard in this segment.
Storage is in line with what others are offering for mainstream computers. The 7310X comes with a large 200MB SATA hard drive that should hold plenty of digital media files. A 16x DVD+/-RW dual layer burner allows the user to create music, movie or data CDs and DVDs. A 9-in-1 media card reader is also included to move files from digital peripherals.
Like most of the mainstream systems, the Gateway 7310X uses the integrated Intel GMA 900 graphics. This is sufficient for the most basic of 3D graphics but is unsuitable for applications such as PC gaming. Thankfully the system includes a 16x PCI Express graphics slot for expansion.
In addition to this, Gateway includes a 15” LCD monitor in the package. This is a nice touch as most desktop PC computers do not include a monitor with the system yet the small 15” screen may leave much to be desired. After all, most notebook computers are moving to 17” wide screen LCDs.
Overall, the Gateway 7310X is a good overall package that makes for a complete computer system unlike most other companies that will have small things missing that can add to the cost.
