Guide Review - Polywell Computers Poly P3500 Desktop PC
2/13/08 Unlike most mainstream desktop systems, Polywell's Poly P3500 is based around an Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 processor rather than the quad core Q6600. This gives it better performance for those that tend to run single applications at a time. One nice thing that Polywell has done is include faster PC2-6400 DDR2 memory instead of the PC2-5300 that most companies are using. This gives it a slight boost in performance for many applications.
On the downside, the Poly P3500 tends to have below average space for storage. It comes standard with a 250GB hard drive while most companies are providing roughly 500GB of storage space in this price segment. It is possible to upgrade the hard drive, but this does add to the cost of the system. The dual layer DVD burner does support the burning of labels directly to LightScribe compatible media.
One of the nice features of the Poly P3500 is the inclusion of a large 22-inch wide screen LCD display with the system. Many companies do not include a monitor as part of the system purchase which adds more expense. The 22-inch size provides a very large and easy to read display. The drawback is that Polywell uses a fairly low end GeForce 8500 GT graphics card with only 256MB of memory. This gives it very limited performance for 3D applications such as gaming. Once again, this is upgradeable but adds to the cost of the system.
Finally, the system pretty much comes with just with Windows Vista operating system installed. This may be a big bonus for some people, but for many it means the need to speed extra for additional software they need to use their computer system.
