8/26/05 – Sony has not been known as a company that offered competitive computer systems at prices similar to that of their competitors, but the VAIO VGC-RB41P breaks that trend by providing a reasonably priced mainstream desktop system.
The RB41P is powered by the Intel Pentium 4 630 (3.0GHz) processor that is compatible with the new 64-bit operating systems for future software upgrades. The processor should work well for most applications that users will put it through. It is matched up with 512MB of PC3200 DDR memory that is standard for the industry.
Storage is on par with other mainstream desktop systems. The RB41P comes with a sizable 200GB SATA hard drive that can hold a large number of digital files. A 16x DVD+/-RW dual layer burner allows the system to create music, movie and data CDs and DVDs. A secondary CD-ROM drive is provided as well as a 9-in-1 flash memory card reader.
Graphics on the RB41P is based on the Intel GMA 900 integrated graphics just like many other mainstream desktops. This is fine for most 2D work and some 3D, but lacks the power for 3D gaming. The system does feature a 16x PCI Express graphics card slot for future video card upgrades.
