Guide Review - Dell UltraSharp 2007WFP 20-inch LCD Monitor

2/19/07 – Dell's UltraSharp 2007WFP 20-inch LCD monitor is the follow up to the very successful 2005FPW 20-inch widescreen LCD monitor. Dell has made a number of improvements in the screen to keep it at the forefront of the display market.

The 20-inch panel retains the same dimensions as the 2005FPW screen, but the casing is very different. The new silver and black design is somewhat slimmer than the older casing but the base is a huge improvement. The footprint of the base is smaller but is much more adjustable than the previous design. The screen moves effortlessly up and down along its track but stays in place without a problem. This makes rotating the screen to the vertical positioning much easier.

In terms of LCD panels performance, the contrast ratios and response times have been improved. The 800:1 contrast ratio and brightness levels seem understanding in the specifications though. The screen when side by side with the older 2005FPW definitely shows more color and is noticeably brighter than the older design. Blacks appear to be deeper but that color quickly gets muddied if the viewer is off center. No image blur was noticed at all when viewing fast moving video or playing action videos games on the screen.

One of the issues with the old 2005FPW screen still remains with the new 2007WFP. While it has a variety of inputs, the VGA and DVI can only be used in picture-in-picture mode with the S-video or composite input and not with the other PC video input.

The UltraSharp 2007WFP is clearly a screen that anyone looking for a high quality widescreen display should consider whether they use their PC for video, gaming or graphics.
