Guide Review - Dell 2005FPW 20.1" Widescreen LCD Monitor

7/11/05 - Dell's 2005FPW 20.1” LCD finally brings widescreen performance LCD monitors into a more reasonable price range. While still priced higher than many 19” LCDs, the amount of features an capabilities more than make up for the price.

The wide aspect ratio and native resolution of 1680x1050 allow the 2005FPW to provide the user with a much larger graphic work space than is possible with most traditional 4:3 monitors. It also has the benefit of providing a more seamless viewing of DVDs that have the 16:9 widescreen format.

Performance of the screen is quite remarkable. The low response times allow for fluid motion in both video and gaming playback on the screen. No ghosting or blurring was detected at all during fast motion sequences. Color representation was quite good with its 8-bit color display and high contrast and brightness. There was some slight light bleeding in the lower corners of the screen that were noticed in dark conditions.

The monitor supports a wide range of input connections including analog VGA, DVI, S-Video and composite video. It is possible to use picture-in-picture on the screen with one of the computer inputs and one of the consumer video connectors but not between the two computer inputs.

Overall, the Dell 2005FPW makes an excellent display that will please those planning to use it for general purpose, internet, video or gaming.
