Unreal Tournament 2004 isn't one of the most recent games on the market, but it was one of the first 3D games to use DirectX 9 and is widely used by other games as the primary graphics engine. Because of this, benchmarking performance in Unreal Tournament gives a good idea about how the card will perform in other games based on the same engine.
All benchmarks were run using the ONS_Dria demo recording the resulting frame rates. Graphics details were all done from the default settings from the installation and in the 1280x1024 resolution. Anti-Aliasing is not supported within the game and must be set at the driver level.
Even though the game is fairly old, the game still stresses the AOpen Aelous 6800-DVD256 card heavily. The game plays at roughly the same frame rate without any filtering or with 2x anti-aliasing. These numbers are just at the right level for smooth frame rates. As the anisotropic filtering is turned on ad the anti-aliasing is increased, the frame rates quickly drop off. The 4x AA, 16x AF is still playable but some slowdowns may occur in the frame rates during play.
Without any of the filtering, the performance difference between the AOpen card and the 6800 GT is very small. In fact, the difference is not noticeable to the player. The difference is with the filtering enabled. The 6800 GT allows for highly playable frame rates with the filtering enabled compared to the AOpen slower 6800 card.
