AOpen Aeolus 6800-DVD256 Conclusions

The AOpen Aeolus 6800-DVD256 is somewhat of a card that is missing an audience. The performance of the card is good at the standard LCD resolutions for today's modern games without filtering enabled, but it still is a significant drop off in performance from next step up 6800 GT graphics card.

Overall, I think there is one market that this card will do really well for. Small form factor systems are restricted for internal space and have much less power than standard desktops. Because the AOpen Aeolus 6800-DVD256 does not require an external PCI-Express graphics power connector and runs much cooler than the 6800 GT, the card is extremely well suited for those looking to put together a small form factor system yet still have a good level of performance for 3D graphics.

When it comes to a standard desktop PC, the Aeolus 6800-DVD256 is a tough call. With the recent release of the GeForce 7800GTX by NVIDIA, the prices for the 6800 GT and Ultra cards will likely start to drop. The level of performance difference between the 6800 and 6800 GT makes the 6800 GT a much more attractive value.
